We put the "outing" in scouting!
Scouts BSA Troop 671 is chartered by the Wildwood Park District of Wildwood, Illinois. We are an active troop of about 30 Scouts, and camp 11-12 weekends a year including a week of summer camp at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation in Pearson, WI. Most years we also have a high adventure trek of some kind in the summer. In the past we’ve gone to Sea Base, Philmont, Northern Tier, Summit Bechtel Reserve, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and other wild places!
Our Scouts come from Gurnee, Grayslake, Third Lake, Gages Lake, Wildwood, and the surrounding communities.
Here’s some additional info for new Scouts & interested people!
Monthly campouts have deadlines to allow the Scouts and adults who are volunteering to have time to plan meals and shop for groceries. Typically that happens 2 weeks before the campout.
Our unit will venture 30 minutes to 4 hours away from home for a typical weekend campout. If it’s a long weekend we’ll go as far as 5 or 6 hours for a special camp or activity. We like to have fun!
See what’s open and register here!
We often have high adventure treks in our future plans! Here’s what’s in the works:
In 2026, the Troop’s trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota had to be rerouted due to wildfires! Ultimately, a group of 2 adults and 7 Scouts had a great time covering over 70 miles on the Namekagon River!
In 2027, Mrs. Short is coordinating TWO 12-person crews for a live aboard Sea Base adventure in St. Thomas! If you wish to ask to be on the waitlist for any openings, please contact Mr. Short
Where will we go in 2028?

Family Outdoor Activities
Family Outdoor Activities are semi-monthly events sponsored by an adult within our unit, which are often focused on specific Scout skills or hiking. Occasionally we have daytrips on local streams, bike rides, zip lining, and other awesome activities!

We have LOTS of great activities planned by our Scouts every year! We have a monthly campout most months of the year, and attend summer camp annually at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation in WI. Monthly campouts are destination & activity based, so it’s not uncommon for us to travel a few hours for a 2 night monthly and as far away as 5+ hours for a special destination over a holiday weekend such as winter camping up north!
