During the school year, we meet at Woodland Elementary School in Gurnee on Gages Lake Road. From mid May to Mid September we meet at Twin Lakes Park in Wildwood.

We also meet at Rule Park in Wildwood as needed to discuss unit business and plan events.

• The Troop 671 Committee (registered adult leaders & other lay people) meets monthly on the 1st Monday of the month. Meetings are usually held at Rule Park in Wildwood and start at 7:00PM. The Committee may occasionally meet virtually or reschedule meetings as needed.
• Troop 671 holds their usual all-Scout weekly meeting on Tuesdays. During the school year, we meet at Woodland Elementary. During the summer, we meet at Twin Lakes Park in Wildwood. Meetings start at 6:35PM and are wrapped up by 8:00PM.
• Troop 671’s Patrol Leaders’ Council (senior Scouts, other Scouts in positions of responsibility) meets monthly on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Meetings are usually held at Rule Park in Wildwood and start at 5:00PM. Meetings may occasionally be rescheduled due to personal conflicts within the PLC.

We have LOTS of great activities planned by our Scouts every year! We have a monthly campout most months of the year, and attend summer camp annually at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation in WI. Monthly campouts are destination & activity based, so it’s not uncommon for us to travel a few hours for a 2 night monthly and as far away as 5+ hours for a special destination over a holiday weekend such as winter camping up north!

Absolutely not! The uniform is simply one of the methods of Scouting, not one of the aims. You see, it’s a lot easier to tell at a glance who is in your group when at a bathroom stop when they’re all similarly dressed. The uniform also helps to provide an easily recognizable identity to the Scout – let’s face it, if you think of a kid in a tan shirt and green shorts you probably get an image of a Scout in your mind.

Our Troop maintains a library of previously used uniform pieces – belts, socks, pants, shirts, and even the occasional jacket. Any of these are welcome to our Scouts to use, however we do request that they find their way back to the Troop at some point down the line. Restricted items such as Order of the Arrow sashes and the like are, of course, restricted from those who should not possess them.

We also often opt to wear an activity uniform outside of official ceremonies. You may hear our Scouts and adults refer to this as a “Class B” uniform. It’s really any Scouting-related t-shirt combined with (ideally) uniform pants or shorts. 

The only times we “require” our Scouts to wear a uniform is for Scoutmaster Conferences or Boards of Review, however if your Scout has issues with textures or other problems preventing them from wearing something “official” we are more than willing to try to find a compromise solution!

No! In fact, one of our strengths is our Troop Committee which is made up of many adults from our area. Naturally, many of those adults also have Scouts in the Troop, however, many others might have had a Scout in the Troop 5 or even 10 years ago. These Scouters continue to provide guidance for our unit, and learning opportunities for our youth. 

Even better is when one of our young adult Scouts returns to the area after moving away for their education. These young adults are welcomed back as committee members or Assistant Scoutmasters and encouraged to give back to the next generation of Scouts.

Finally, if you’re just a regular person, check to see if you have a special hobby, career, or trade that happens to line up with one of the over 240 Merit Badges offered by Scouting America. One of the aims of Scouting is teaching young people it’s ok to seek out knowledge from adults.
